Since 2019, Panama has had a Personal Data Protection (PDP) law, which was regulated in 2021, and there are already multiple ongoing investigations due to non-compliance reports.
This law applies to: Databases that store or contain personal data of nationals or foreigners located in the territory of the Republic of Panama. The person responsible for processing the data domiciled in the Republic of Panama. The processing of data whose origin or storage is in Panamanian territory. The processing of data carried out within the framework of a commercial activity, through the Internet or other means of electronic or digital communication, in relation to activities directed at the Panamanian market.
